5 cheap restaurants in Venice
Venice is one of the top vacation destinations in the world and every year, millions of tourists flock to this gem of the Adriatic, so it is not easy to find where to eat well and at affordable prices. The trick is, as usual, to eat where the Venetians eat and in this little guide we will show you some of those hidden places.

For the most restless travelers who just want to take a little break while doing sightseeing, Gaetano Ruiz (Barbaria of Tole 6672) is their flagship. Located in the Castello neighborhood, it offers take away only and you can get a serving of pasta and two calzone pizzas (enough for two people) for less than 10 euros. Ideal when visiting the Rialto Bridge area.
The Cannaregio district offers best options in terms of restaurants, as it is not as busy with tourists. La Cantina (Strada Nova, 3689) is a small winery of modest exterior that does not honor their tasty dishes and excellent wines. There is a daily menu, dishes are prepared with fresh products they buy every day in the Rialto market and is a pleasure to be surprised by their friendly and expert cook, Francesco. Prices per dish range from 15 to 30 euros and are usually enough to share between two people. Try fresh seafood, or, if you prefer meat, their are prepared dishes with venison, duck or quail which are exceptional, as well as the selection of local cheeses for dessert. With its tiny dimensions, it is advisable to go early or book a table beforhand.
The Bar Leon d´Oro (Rio Tera della Maddalena, 2345) is another indispensable place to visit in Cannareggio. This family restaurant has a warm and friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a homemade meal. Traditional dishes, among which we find gnocchi with crab and tagliolini with calamaretti neri (black noodles with squid), as well as delicious cakes and desserts. The first courses ranges from 8 to 12 euros and the second ones between 14 and 20 euros.
The Osteria Bea Vita (Fondamenta delle Cappuccine, 3082) is a warm and small trattoria whose tiramisu is legendary. Generous portions and local products, among which we recommend tuna with sesame crust and antipasti (appetizers)of fish . The lunch menu, with first and second course with wine costs 13 euros, while a “a la carte” dinner of two courses, dessert and drinks costs around 35 euros per person. If the weather allows it, choose one of the outdoor tables overlooking the canal, you will have great views and total tranquility.
Finally, we suggest leaving Venice and visiting the small island of Sant´Erasmo to enjoy the magical family restaurant Ca ´Vignotto (via Forti 71). Open since 1958, is an old country house with beautiful gardens, which the Venetians go to enjoy their flagship product: six plates of seafood specialties (more than enough for two), accompanied by all the wine that you may be able to drink, all for 55 euros. Try also the exquisite cake with fig jam with cinnamon.
To enjoy your stay in the city of canals, nothing better than to choose one of our apartments in Venice, a great alternative to hotels that will allow you to experience first-hand the local environment.
