The Scandals and Failures of Young Stars
Being young and famous is not as easy as some people think, especially when one is subjected to extreme pressures, as happens with the Disney kids. They make the entertainment industry a ton of money and are a great resource for their parents as well. Their contracts oblige them to a solitary life and a strenuous workday in order to stay on top.
The list of Disney youth includes: Demi Lovato, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), the Jonas Brother, Justin Bieber, Selena Gómez, Christina Aguilera and many others that are not as famous. They entered the business when Disney was in crisis but had discovered that the secret to a recovery was in the market for youth aged 6 to 14. One study found that this group was Puritan, simple-minded and highly consumerist. From these characteristics they created products that met these guidelines, arriving at the Disney kids: teenagers who subscribe to virginity and abstain from alcohol and drugs while spending 24/7 in their appropriate dress, hairstyle and make-up, as determined by laboratory marketing, and having romantic relationships regulated by the industry.
On top of all this, there are the grueling tours during which they are isolated and guarded by bodyguards, diets to maintain their somewhat child-like figures, the anxiety of trying to stay at the top, the hard work of filming, photo sessions and interviews. It is understandably exhausting.
Miley Cyrus, who has separated from Disney, was known for her fondness of drugs and alcohol. Her biggest public scandal, which made the Disney executives sweat bullets, came after Annie Liebovitz took art photography of her for Vanity Fair in 2008. In them, she appeared nude and semi-covered with a sheet sporting a provocative look at a time when she was known for her role in Hannah Montana. Cyrus was forced to publicly apologize to her fans, saying she had been deceived by the magazine.
The most dramatic case is that of Demi Lovato. She has frequently been in the middle of sentimental scandals, alleged porn videos, accusations of backstage licentiousness, and leaks about drug use, depression and eating disorders that have disrupted some presentations. But what can you expect from a young woman whose own mother discusses her daughter’s lovers with the press?
Another one who has been caught up in scandals involving excess alcohol is Justin Bieber. In March, he was caught in an embarrassing jealous scene with Selena Gomez at a restaurant inMiami. Because there was such an uproar and because of his deplorable state, his bodyguards had to take them into an alley to continue the fight without witnesses.
Britney has had so many scandals that is hard to list them. But all have been triggered by the serious psychological problems stemming from fame at such a young age.
