St. Mark’s Festival in Venice

April 20, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

Venice is more than just carnival. The 25th of April is a very important day for Italy, marking celebration of the fall of Nazism and fascism, and in Venice, it’s an even more important date. On the 25th of April every year, the city comes alive to in celebration of the Evangelist Saint Mark, patron saint of the city of canals. Saint Mark always appears with a lion beside him who bears the inscription Paz tibi Marce Evangelista Meus (Peace for you, evangelist Mark) which appears on many Venetian monuments and is defining symbol of Venice.

According to the legend, the saint’s relics were brought from Alexandria Egypt illicitly to the city in 828, by two merchants, Rustico da Torcello y Buono da Malmocco. The famous Saint Mark’s Basilica, an imposing monument in Byzantine style, was constructed in the 11th century to house the relics.

Sheltering this patron saint’s body has always been very important to Venetians, especially because according to Venetian history, Saint Mark was the evangelist who converted the people of Venice to Christianity. In the Basilica, mass is celebrated following the procession, as well as other religious celebrations. This is also the traditional date for the celebration of “bocolo”, when all the men give their ladies a rose. The typical meal is risi e bisi, a simple dish consisting of rice and peas.

April is undoubtedly an ideal month to visit and discover the monuments, museums, suggestive bridges and lanes, and enjoy one of the most traditional festivals. Don’t forget that you can also take a look in all the city shops and boutiques, and eat in typical Venetian restaurants. For lodging, nothing beats renting comfortable apartments in Venice.

Live your life to the Limit

April 07, 2010 By: veniceblogger Category: Venice

Why do you want to live long enough to see your 80th birthday if you don’t enjoy every second of your life? Do you want to end up feeling like a useless human being, who needs constant help from others just to survive? What does one feel in the last seconds of his/her life, when you look back and you think of all the things you missed out on? You have to life your life to the fullest. How you do that, is your problem because it’s your life, and nobody can (not should) tell you what is the right way to do it.

life to the limit

Does that mean you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want? No, i’m not saying you can go fool around and torture people just because you feel like it. The golden rule is actually pretty simple: your freedom ends where mine begins. And from there on, you can do as you please. Who am I to tell you what is good or bad for you? And why do other people think they have the right to control your life?

Honestly, I kinda look up to those kind of people who enjoy life 24 hours a day, seven days a week – livingwithout limits. Drugs, unbridled sex, alcohol – live fast and die young. Everything would be different if we knew that after this life there is another one, and another, and another … that our presence in this world is more useful than just die when you finally accomplished something, that what I do in this life has an impact on my following life. It makes a difference, because I’d rather live a thousand quiet and normal lives than just 1 wild one.. Still, everyone is entitled to squeeze as much out of life as you can. But no-one ever came back from the death to tell us what to expect.

There exists this city where you can escape, where you can close your eyes and see how anything can happen. This romantic city hides some dark secrets and mysteries, you can enjoy every second of it. Life is too short not to have fun, take a trip and rent the best Apartments in Venice.
